Iryna Butsky
Iryna spends her time thinking about how small-scale physical processes (e.g. cosmic rays, magnetic fields, cold gas substructure) come together to shape galaxies and their cosmic ecosystems. She tackles these problems using a variety of computational techniques (including implementing new physics and simulating a variety of conditions, ranging from idealized microphysics to cosmological simulations) as well as pen-and-paper theory. Iryna was born in Ukraine and grew up in the Bay Area of California. She holds degrees from Caltech (B.S. 2014) and the University of Washington (PhD 2021) and has done astronomy research at the MPIA (2013), SLAC (2014-2015), and the CCA (2019-2020). Iryna spent her first postdoc as a DuBridge Fellow at Caltech (2021-2023) before joining Stanford as a Hubble Fellow.
