Sanskriti Das

Sanskriti is interested in the co-evolution of disks and halos, aka, the circumgalactic medium (CGM) of galaxies through multiphase gas cycles between the disk and the CGM. The CGM holds crucial information at radio, mm, and X-ray, but signal detection is extremely challenging in these wavelengths. Sanskriti devises efficient observing strategies and develops data reduction and analysis techniques to extract faint diffuse CGM signals camouflaging behind bright and complicated backgrounds. She studies cold CGM using radio telescopes (single dishes and interferometers) and looks for the accreting/inflowing raw material for star formation that is missing from the disk. Using mm and X-ray telescopes (CCDs and gratings), she looks for the hot CGM which is the reservoir of baryons and metals missing from the stars and ISM. She uses multiwavelength (radio, UV, optical, IR, and X-ray) data to study the corresponding galactic disks.

Sanskriti is currently a KIPAC fellow at Stanford University (2022-) and did her PhD in Astronomy at the Ohio State University (2017-2022). She is the co-founder of CARINAS which aims to improve the gender gap in Astronomy in India. She is actively involved in Astronomy education and outreach.
